Where do children in Fovant go to school?

Fovant village is very well placed for education provision in all directions of the compass and across the age groups from pre-school right up to further education and 6th form.

Pre-school and Nursery

Nurseries within a 5-mile radius of the village include the ‘Outstanding’ settings of Dinton Pre-school  and Filthy Squirrels at Fifield Bavant but there are many other options in Wilton, Salisbury and the surrounding villages.

Primary Education

Although the Fovant Village School closed in 1997, the nearby primary school at Dinton has become the catchment school for Fovant children and there is a free school bus from the village at both ends of the day.

Dinton Primary School is a small school with a friendly, family atmosphere and a wonderfully strong community identity.  The wide curriculum allows children to succeed at sports and in the arts, in spite of small numbers.

Now part of the Acorn Education Trust, Dinton Primary has been consistently graded as a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted over the last 15 years and results continue to reflect this.

There are other Primary Schools at Broadchalke, Chilmark, Wilton, Wardour and beyond, which gives parents a genuine choice.

Secondary School

South Wiltshire still retains the grammar school system and Fovant sits in the catchment for the two Salisbury grammar schools, Bishop Wordsworth’s (boys) and South Wilts (girls). Children are required to sit an 11+ exam in year 6 to secure a place for either of these schools.

Salisbury also has a number of non-selective secondary schools, Sarum Academy being the catchment school for Fovant.

Sarum Academy is part of the Magna Learning Partnership and is well supported by the trust.

Many of the children from Fovant travel west for their secondary education and Shaftesbury School provides another option.

Both of these two schools were rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2023 and have 6th forms, allowing continuity for post-16 education.
